"Let the children come to me; do not hinder them …”
The most important duty of a parent is to teach the Scriptures to his children. If he doesn’t, the next generation looses the spiritual ground gained by the previous. The enemy of our soul knows this and he makes sure that our lifestyle steals us away from this responsibility. He wants the world to adore and worship him and all he needs for that is a generation of mostly unbelievers. Just a couple of generations are needed to bring it to pass and from what I can see, we are almost there! Our children today are not raised to the sounds of their parents teaching them about God’s plan for His people and the world, but to the demonic tireless addicting beats of Microsoft and MTV, even as they do their humanistic school work. Maybe that is why Yeshua said, “when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth (Luke 18:8)?"
As a writer I find it difficult to edit and correct my own work. The problem is that I automatically read into my text what I see and hear in my head more than what is actually written on the page, so I miss mistakes. I need someone removed from my text to point the mistakes out to me. We do the same thing with Scriptures. We read them in the spirit in which they have been fed unto us from an early age. This happens when instead of teaching the Scriptures to our children when they are small, we teach them already processed and theologized cute stories about them. Oh how mothers love to do that! But when the child starts reading on his own, he is already indoctrinated and reads into the Word what he has been taught all the way into adult life, and probably to his children. A perfect recipe to preserve man’s teaching while killing the Truth of God’s Word. To teach the child processed stories instead of the pure Word has the same effect as feeding him candy bars with one percent nourishing protein and the rest fat and sugars. He starves to death.
In Judaism, a child started his religious education by memorizing Leviticus. It is even a commandment for all males to appear before God in the great jubilee in Jerusalem for the public reading of the Torah by the King himself. Only after the child has been cradled by the direct Word straight from God’s mouth is he able to have some sort of discernment and properly learn from the writings of others. If we feel that our children are too immature to understand Leviticus, there is problem in the way we raise them, not with the Word. I dare affirm that if we do not have a working knowledge and understanding of Leviticus, we have an erroneous understanding of the Gospel and of much of the epistles from Paul.
Soon the King will return and again we will gather in Jerusalem with our children at the Feast of Tabernacles to hear the Word read from His mouth. May it be soon Abba, even in our days!
